The University of Utah is pleased to announce the 5th International Conference on Chemical Looping, to be held at the Chateaux at Deer Valley Hotel in Park City, Utah 24-27 September 2018.

The chemical looping concept is based on the use of materials with oxidation-reduction capabilities that can either oxidize or reduce fuel. The required oxygen to convert fuel is provided by a redox material, eliminating the need of conventional air separation units. The process is being developed to provide clean and efficient energy production solutions such as combustion with inherent CO2 capture, hydrogen production, gasification, reforming and waste disposal.

Carbonate looping is an efficient post combustion CO2 capture technology with a low energy demand and CO2 mitigation cost compared to other post combustion CCS processes. CO2 contained in the flue gas is absorbed by carbon carrier (solid sorbent) and released in a regenerator.

Interest in and research on chemical looping processes continues to grow. Research in recent years has focused on oxygen/carbon carrier materials, reactor concepts, potential applications and emission control. Chemical looping is being investigated through a combination of fundamental lab-scale studies, operation of pilot plants at different scales, system modeling and reactor simulation. The 5th International Conference on Chemical Looping welcomes presentations on all these aspects of chemical looping.

The 1st International Conference on Chemical Looping was hosted by Dr. Thierry Gauthier of IFP in Lyon, France in 2010. Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bernd Epple hosted the 2nd conference at Technische Universität Darmstadt, Germany in 2012. Profs. Carl Linderholm and Anders Lyngfelt were responsible for the 3rd conference at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden in 2014. Prof. Laihong Shen of Southeast University hosted the 4th conference in Nanjing, China in 2016.
